The Importance of Self-Care

**SPONSORED POST**

There’s a lot of talk lately about the importance of self-care. About taking a minute for yourself. About making sure you don’t reach burnout. And it can be as simple as just taking your lunch break away from your desk. But I’ve found a much better way to ensure you get your “you-time”.

Why We Should Self-Care

Quite simply, you are the number one person in your life. Without you, your day wouldn’t happen. You need to be feeling your best, to be able to perform your best. And how are you going to do that if you’re stressed, tired and overwhelmed? It wasn’t until I read Arianna Huffington’s Thrive that I began to think about the concept of self-care.

Funny how we don’t realise we need to take better care of ourselves until someone tells us to, isn’t it?

Anyways, in the book, she talks about the various things we, and our employers, can do to improve our well-being. But why are we waiting for our bosses to introduce a wellness room, or make our emails inaccessible after hours? Why are we not taking matters into our own hands? Now, I’m lucky. I don’t have children or a husband that depends on me. I don’t work in a time-demanding job. So the opportunity for me to grab some alone time is super easy. But for a lot of you, even taking a bath without your little ones interrupting is a challenge. Which is why I’m presenting to you Privilee.

What’s The Deal With Privilee?

Do you want the good news or the bad news first? So the bad news is this is only available in the UAE. But still, read on because you never know what ideas it may inspire. The good news is that this card offers members over 100 different ways to unwind. From access to beach clubs to food and beverage deals; from spa deals to fitness centres.

So the bad news is this is only available in the UAE. But still, read on because you never know what ideas it may inspire. The good news is that this card offers members over 100 different ways to unwind. From access to beach clubs to food and beverage deals; from spa deals to fitness centres.

With one single membership, you can get access to hotel gyms, tennis courts and spa facilities on a daily basis. Once you’ve hit all your fitness goals, use Privilee to access some of Dubai’s best beaches on your days off. Or spend an hour or two after work getting a facial or massage in one of the spas (my favourite is SoSpa in the Sofitel). Or use a restaurant deal and have that much-needed date night.

Some of Privilee’s partners include The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina, The Address Dubai Marina, Riva Beach Club, Kempinski Hotel Palm Jumeirah, Waldorf Astoria Palm Jumeirah, The St. Regis Abu Dhabi and Saadiyat Beach Club. Children go free with this membership card, and a few of the hotel partners have kids clubs so you can leave them to play while you take advantage of the sun and facilities in peace. There’s also a membership package that comes with two guest passes so you can unwind with a friend or loved one.

Feeling more relaxed already right?

Take Every Opportunity

I know everything is easier said than done. In an ideal world, we would all be relaxing on the beach of a 5* hotel before getting a massage on our days off. But if you don’t actively make time for you, then you never will. Whether you are in Dubai, Abu Dhabi or the other side of the world, schedule in that moment of relaxation. It doesn’t have to be as grand as what Privilee has to offer – though if you are in Dubai, you really have no excuse – it could be having a leisurely breakfast at that place you’ve been dying to go to. Or a mani/pedi. Even a few sessions at the gym per week (Privilee has all this covered FYI). Anything that takes your hands off your phone and your mind off the world for at least an hour a week.

Great post, self care is so important! I try to take walks everyday without my phone so I can clear my head and have some me-time, and I can see a huge benefit.
