If you’ve never heard of microblading, then you obviously have perfect eyebrows. But for those of us who spend most of our mornings creating our brows, this procedure is a blessing.
What is Microblading?
Microblading is a form of tattooing, whereby ink implanted under the skin using strokes to create the illusion of hair. A handheld tool with tiny blades is used, rather than a machine. The procedure is only temporary, lasting around the year. One wonderful year.
As someone who is facially bold (my eyebrows and lashes are super fair), the very idea of waking up and having a full face is very exciting. I mean, when you have brows and lashes, that’s almost all the work done. You just need to work on the base. But for those of us without such luxuries, we need to wake up that extra thirty minutes early to make sure our eyebrows look natural and match.
I’d like to think that I’m good with pain. I have tattoos which didn’t hurt, and needles don’t bother me. But honestly, at certain times, microblading did. Despite the fact that they applied a numbing cream, I still found that certain areas such as the thinner part of my brow still hurt. It wasn’t a huge, unbearable pain, more like a deep scratch.
And you can hear the blades scratching your skin too, which psychologically make everything much worse.
In your first session, they measure out your eyebrows to create the perfect shape for your face. They draw all over your forehead and brows, making you look like a wall about to have a series of shelves drilled into it. The colour is then selected and the numbing cream applied.
The technician then begins to draw (needle, scratch. Not sure on the technical term here) in the ‘hair’. This is repeated around three times taking approximately and hour and a half, two hours all together.
6 weeks later you go back for a top up. And you’re good for a year or so.
The procedure is super simple and about 86% pain-free. But the difference it makes to your everyday life is incredible. I feel like a drama queen when I tell people how life changing microblading is. How something as simple as fully defined brows when waking up can make you feel so much better about yourself. You can go to the gym and beach make-up free. You don’t have worry about your eyebrows looking too dark or being smudged.
It’s ok when it rains because the colour won’t run off!!
I really have to thank the ladies at The Brow Effect for being so helpful and for giving me my brows.
FYI this is an exact replica of the healing process.
